This badge has surfaced on the collectors market. Although we do not go back in time all that often, this badge has been checked out with the COLORADO STATE PATROL, and they have advised there has NEVER been an organization called the COLORADO STATE POLICE.

This badge is a “fake” and should be valued as worthless by any serious collector.

The Colorado State Patrol badge is a custom die, and although only a few reproductions of the badge are found on the collectors market, this is the one more frequently seen.

This reproduction is based on the die used by the April Manufacturing Company. It has a few details that should quickly tell the educated collector that something is not right. In looking at the larger photo of this badge, note that the font for the rank is smaller than for the words COLORADO STATE PATROL. This is wrong and should alert you right away to the fact that you are looking at a reproduction.

If you are still uncertain about the badge, you should also look at the letter “O” in the rank panel. You will note that it is an oval “O” and not a round “O” as is used in the words COLORADO STATE PATROL. The badge should have nothing but round “O” letters, and all of the words should be of the same font size. So, the badge has two major tell-tale signs that it is a reproduction… a smaller font is used for the rank, and the “O” in the rank word is oval and not round as specifications call for.

The reproduction pictured is considered worth only about $35, and that would be just for manufacturing materials.
