The Missouri State Highway Patrol is one of the states that does not wear a uniform breast badge. The BADGE GUIDE pictures and describes the "department issue" pocket size identification badge issued to SHP members. Investigators with the department are issued a slightly larger wallet ID badge.

A fake Missouri badge has surfaced on the web auction sites. It is a reproduction of the larger issue badge, but like most repros, there are problems with it. The most outstanding is the size of the font used. It is too large, the state seal is wrong, and the lettering appears to be hard fired enamel when it should be soft enamel.

This badge should be valued between $35 and $45, which is for material only. IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING A MISSOURI BADGE FOR YOUR COLLECTION, there is a strong possibility that could be considering a worthless item. Should you encounter a badge that you have questions about, do send us a copy of the photos, front and back if you have them. This will help us in our efforts of telling other collectors what is out on the market these days. Should you encounter a state patrol badge and have questions about it, send us a photo of the badge, back and front, and let us give you an opinion. Remember, it is your input that alerts us to the fakes and reproductions that are out there. Support honest collectors by telling us of questionable badges.
