Foreword by the author of the State Police and State Highway Patrol Badge Guide, Bill Mauldin:

In 1994, I began working on a collection of badges from the various State Police and Highway Patrol agencies in the United States. The purpose of this collection was to complete it, make a display and donate it to the North Carolina Highway Patrol Hall of History as a memorial for three old friends no longer "on patrol". Unfortunately, being a novice at obtaining these badges, I met with several of the unscrupulous persons within the badge collecting hobby. Many of the first SP/HP badges obtained for the display were reproductions, total fakes. Because of this, I decided there was a need to compile a guide related to the badges, patches, and hat emblems worn by the state troopers of today and yesterday.

This publication is the most complete, detailed book available today. It has been revised yearly, and is now the standard reference guide for collectors, the movie and television industry, and for those who are just interested in the state troopers of our 50 states.
